Cities & Ports:

Bavaria, Munich & Oktoberfest

Bavaria is one of the oldest states in Europe, dating back to the 6th century A.D.  Home to 12.5 million inhabitants, Bavaria is a land rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage, lively traditions and cozy hospitality.  The picturesque villages, medieval towns and the Bavarian capital city of Munich are the epitome of authenticity.  We’ll travel to Munich & Oktoberfest, and begin with a Munich City Tour, featuring views of Olympic Park and a visit to the famous Marian Platz, home to the fourth largest glockenspiel in the world.  We’ll stop at a local Bavarian Restaurant & Beer Hall for a traditional lunch with an included ‘bier.’  After lunch your motorcoach will take you to experience Munich’s legendary Oktoberfest at your own pace.  They’ve been brewing ‘liquid bread’ here for 3000 years and they do it better than anyone else.  Enjoy time on you own to stroll the festival grounds and indulge in the unique and amazing atmosphere of Oktoberfest.  Be sure to sample the brew and feast on Bavarian food and specialties, as you discover an array of Munich’s history and culture.

Passau is one of Germany’s oldest cities.  Situated at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers, Passau is a beautiful fairy-tale town with a history dating back more than 2,000 years.  During an included walking tour, admire graceful arcades, cobblestone streets and see the Baroque Cathedral of St. Stephen.

Situated in Eastern Bavaria, Regensburg, founded by the Romans in 179 A.D., is one of Germany’s oldest towns.  Today it is a prosperous city with three universities and many landmarks dated to the Middle Ages.  Enjoy a Regensburg Walking Tour through one of the most visited cities in Germany and its Medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For over 6,000 years, the magnificent baroque capital city of Vienna was the seat of the mighty Hapsburg Emperors, a heritage that has bestowed it with many dazzling palaces and monuments: the lavish Hofburg Palace, the impressive Vienna Opera House and the majestic Ringstrasse.  The capital is also known as the “City of Music” for having once been the home of composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Johann Strauss.  On your included city tour, see some of the famous sights of this impressive city.  Later enjoy some time at leisure, or maybe visit the Schoenbrunn Palace.

On an included panoramic tour of the city, see the imposing Bratislava Castle built more than 1,000 years ago, the National Slovakian Theatre and Blumenthal Church.  After passing through the Vienna Gate, discover Bratislava’s charming old quarter on foot.

One of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Budapest straddles both banks of the Danube, and is linked by seven bridges; including Chain and Elizabeth Bridges.  An included sightseeing tour presents you with a fantastic opportunity to become acquainted with Hungary’s beautiful capital.  Enjoy a photo stop at Gellert Hill, see historic Buda Castle, 500-year old Matthias Church, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the distinctive Fisherman’s Bastion and the marvelous Royal Palace.
