Exploring Arizona’s High Country & The White Mountain Trail System

September 19th-21st, 2017  Tuesday-Thursday

$399 (Based Upon Double Occupancy)  $64 (Single Supplement)

Come September, with the heat of the Valley still upon us, Arizona’s White Mountains are the perfect destination for nature lovers of all stripes.  At elevations of 6,500 to 9,000 feet, this high country setting offers crystal mountain lakes surrounded by pine forests and lush green meadows.  It is also the home of The White Mountain Trail System—a series of 25-30 interconnecting, multi-use trail loops—an excellent trail system that has been nationally ranked as one of the nation’s premier hiking destinations.  Tranquil and scenic, most trails are also inhabited by watchable wildlife, including elk, deer, antelope, turkey, quail, rabbit and more.  A unique feature of the Trail System is the loop concept.  Traditional trails take us from point A to point B, requiring a return trip over the same terrain.  The Trail System takes us from point A to point A, along a loop offering connector loops that vary in length, and level of difficulty—a great system for all ages.  Clubbies have long been requesting more time at Fools Hollow Lake, Woodland Lake Park, Big Springs Environmental Study Area and Billy Creek—five fabulous parks connected  to the trail system—and we’ll go with the flow, exploring as much as time allows.

Day One:  We’ll leave the Valley with a stop for coffee & goodies in Payson, on our way to enjoy lunch on self in Heber, at The Red Onion.  A true Travel Club favorite, The Red Onion is famous for their cheeseburgers, homemade chili and daily lunch specials.  After lunch it’s back on the bus and we’ll enjoy the most remarkable scenery on our way to Hon-Dah Casino Resort, our headquarters for the next two nights.  Nothing fancy, the Hon-Dah hotel rooms are clean and cozy, and buffet style dinner is included, at the Indian Pine Restaurant.  After dinner we’ll enjoy a free evening.  Check out the casino if you are so inclined, kick back with a cocktail in Spirits Bar, or enjoy the heated pool, spa or sauna.

Day Two:  Breakfast is included at the hotel, and then it’s back on the bus and we’re off to explore The White Mountain Trail System.  With an eye on scenic and easy—feel free to participate to whatever level you feel comfortable.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Arizona’s White Mountains, and we’ll see as much of it as time allows.  Late afternoon we’ll return to our hotel, where we’ll enjoy dinner, included, and another free evening.

Day Three:   Breakfast is included at the hotel, and then it’s bags out and we’re back on the bus headed for home.  We’ll enjoy a scenic loop tour back to the Valley taking us through the Salt River Canyon, a 2,000 foot-deep river canyon, so gorgeous and loaded with history that it is often referred to as the Little Grand Canyon.  This stretch of highway is broad and well-paved offering some of the most dramatic views ever seen from a bus window!  We’ll make our way into Globe, where we’ll stop for lunch on self at Guayo’s Mexican Restaurant, where the price is right and the food is great.  After lunch it’s back on the bus, and we’ll hightail it for home with plenty more great sights to enjoy along the way.  This affordable tour includes so much!  Don’t miss out on the fun.  Call in your reservations and come with us.
