Day One:  We’ll leave the Valley with a stop for coffee & goodies, on our way to enjoy lunch on self, in Flagstaff, at the 1899 Bar & Grill—a true Travel Club favorite!  After lunch we’ll jump back on the bus and head into the high pine forests of the Flagstaff area, and Walnut Canyon National Monument!  We’ll enjoy a relaxing driving tour through Walnut Canyon’s amazing geological cliff formations, where the former homes of ancient inhabitants are easily evident.  Walnut Canyon is six-miles long and encompasses 360 acres.  The ledges formed by winding Walnut Creek left natural alcoves that were perfect for sheltering native people from the wind and snow that reaches the Monument’s higher elevations.   Sometime between 1100 and 1250, over 100 people called Walnut Canyon their home; growing crops along the rim and in crevices along the walls.  Walnut Creek flowed down the canyon floor, sustaining a unique community of cliff dwellers whose homes can be seen from the visitor’s center.  After this incredible stop, we’ll make our way to another remarkable destination—Meteor Crater—the world’s best preserved meteorite impact site.  Meteor Crater is the result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth; approximately 50,000 years ago.  Nearly 1 mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep, this world-class tourist venue offers an outdoor observation trail, air conditioned indoor viewing, and an interactive discovery center.  Later we’ll hop back on the bus and head for Twin Arrows Casino Resort—our home base for the night!  After checking in we’ll be free to enjoy the evening.  Twin Arrows—home to four restaurants—offers something for everyone—from a quick bite to a fine dining experience.  Dinner is on self, and we’ve always enjoyed The Grand Falls Buffet, which features a great assortment of American, Asian and Navajo entrée choices—including authentic Navajo fry bread and mutton stew, a fresh salad bar, cake and soft drinks.  The evening is yours to enjoy; check out the pool, swing by the lounge for a cocktail, or hit the casino if you are so inclined!

Day Two:  Breakfast is on self at the hotel, and then it’s bags out and we’re back on the bus— headed for The Desert View Entrance of the Grand Canyon, sometimes called, “The Other South Rim.”  This lesser known east entrance to the Grand Canyon, as with all sides of the Grand Canyon, features breathtaking, heart stopping views of one of the world’s Seven Wonders!  Less accessible, offering fewer amenities, the Desert View entrance is also less mobbed by tourists.  We’ll begin our Grand Canyon tour with a stop at the iconic Desert View Watchtower.  This is what you will see from there: to the east the Painted Desert, then follow the Colorado River and watch it make a big loopy turn to the west, The North Rim is 10 miles ahead and we’ll explore a panoramic view that stretches more than 100 miles!  We’ll enjoy a leisurely driving tour, with plenty of stops at the scenic overlooks along the Desert View Drive—a spectacular 25-mile stretch running east to west along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.  Eventually we’ll arrive in Grand Canyon Village for lunch on self, with several wonderful restaurants to choose from, including the world famous El Tovar Dining Room.  After lunch, we’ll hightail it for home, enjoying spectacular scenery and some great stops along the way!  This is going to be a remarkable tour, offered at a great price.  Don’t miss out on the fun!
